A Shot in the Dark

Remember that photography site I was thinking about making? Yeah, I made it. It was one of those things that I start and can’t stop until it is finished. It has actually been “done” for about a week now, but there was some stuff that I wanted to fix/update. I decided today that it is good enough for now.

As I am way too lazy to design my own stuff now, I decided to go with 3formed’s Clean Grey. I then used Zenphoto as my photo backend. I didn’t like the way Zenphoto displayed each image on a separate page, so I wrote a theme for Zenphoto using LightboxEx, which is a modified version of Lightbox 2 that includes slideshow functionality.  I am pretty happy with how it turned out. Hopefully, you feel the same.

Publication?

I have recently been in contact with a member of Dr. Neil Brown’s staff, Rob, in regards to using some of my photos in one of their publications. Who is Dr. Neil Brown you ask. He is the MLA for Calgary-Nose Hill. They contacted me through flickr. If this works out, it would be my first real publication. I have photos in other things, like the Schmap Calgary map thing and other online publications, but this would be the first real printed publication. I’m pretty excited.

I have to phone Rob again tomorrow to work out all the details, but other than that it should be good to go. I’ll keep you guys updated.

Adventures in Photography

Calgary Skyline (2)So, here’s the deal. On Saturday night, I went out to go take some pictures of Downtown Calgary from the top of Broadcast Hill. I arrived, took the photos, and was putting my camera away in the bag and everything, and had turned the light on in my truck. I had put my keys down on the seat, and then out everything away. I then closed the door, and started to walk around to the driver’s side door. About halfway there I realized that the driver’s side door was locked. I thought, “oh I need my keys” and walked back to the other door, only to find it locked. So, there I was on Broadcast Hill with my keys locked in my truck. Luckily, I had my phone in my pocket and was able to phone my mom. She brought me the other set, and I got in to start my truck, only to find that the battery, while not dead, was not enough to turn over the engine. Thanks to Amy’s truck dieing like a week earlier, I had booster cables in my truck, and was able to boost it and get it home.

The pictures turned out a lot better than my evening. The one I posted with this, is one of the ones that I took that night. I also discovered on Saturday that the Flash for the old Minolta X700 35mm SLR works for my D50. Now all I need is the remote (and more lenses of course).

Oh, and about the site thing, yeah, that isn’t happening. What I wanted to do was to have a picture of cool Christmas lights every week, but I decided that that was going to be to difficult, so I’m not doing it.

I am soooo fake pre-loading this image so the navigation doesn't skip while loading the over state. I know I could use the sliding doors technique to avoid this fate, but I am too lazy.
