Time Lapse – Dashboard Lights Swap

This is a time lapse of me changing out the light of the instrument cluster in my 1996 Toyota Tacoma. In total, it took about an hour to an hour and a half. This is the second time I did it. The first time I put in blue LEDs that weren’t bright enough. I bought some super bright lights from Japan and put those in this time around. They are much better.

This is 504 shots that I took with my Nikon D80. I used Nikon Camera Control Pro to control my camera. I told it to take a picture every second, but with processing time, I think it ended up being once every four or five seconds.

The music is part of Morning Rain by Joel Steeves (me). I know it doesn’t fit the best, but this way I don’t have to worry about copyright.

What’s really fun to watch is the screws on the right hand side. There isn’t many pictures of me putting them there or taking them away, so they just kind of appear and disappear.

I’m working on getting the high res version up on Vimeo, but it’s not liking me right now.

EDIT: HD Version – http://www.vimeo.com/2263676

That’s neat. I really need to do some work on my own Envoy. I got some sway bar end links to fix and two sensors to replace before I can work on modifications. I’m trying to figure out what I want to work on first. Something fairly inexpensive. LEDs seem to be the cheapest mod I can do for right now. Replace the interior incandescent lights with some white LEDs – both brighten up the interior and make the light seem less yellow (and years of tobacco tar doesn’t help). I might also do the dash while I’m at it (’tis pretty dim).

Ultimately, I want to make the vehicle a little more efficient to counteract what I’m going to do with it by making it a little more rugged.

I do like your truck, though.

When did you get an Envoy? What happened to the Aveo (I think that is what it was)? That sounds like some sweet plans you’ve got for it. I’ve got some mechanical issues that I need to fix before I continue with my plans. One of my axle seals is leaking and the other side needs to be replaced before it starts to leak. Because of the leak, I need to replace the bearing. Also, my e-brake pivots are seized, but I’m not going to worry about those right now. I also have a slight rust problem, which is a work in progress.

Nate just watched that with me and he didn’t even recognize you. Then he said, “is he going to talk to us?” and when I said no, he goes, “oh it’s just a commercial of Joel at a different house?” Then he started shouting, “Hi Joel!” at the computer. I think after all the ichat-ing, he doesn’t understand what a normal movie is!
    The video is cool though.

I wish that I could fast forward me when I do something and get it done twice as fast. That is how it works, right? Cool video, kid.

I was just looking at your other site and I think you should post more pictures. You are missing some of my favourites!

I am soooo fake pre-loading this image so the navigation doesn't skip while loading the over state. I know I could use the sliding doors technique to avoid this fate, but I am too lazy.
